Checking Out a Lock:
- Bike Locks must be borrowed from the Service Desk closest to the entrance, and returned to staff at that desk.
- Ask the patron for a valid MCLS library card, a current student ID (for under 18), or a current driver’s license or state ID. No other forms of identification will be accepted, nor any other items presented for collateral.
- Clip the ID to the clipboard
- Write the patron’s name and the date on the clipboard
- Give the patron an unlocked bike lock
Returning a Lock:
- When the patron wishes to return the lock, take the bike lock key ring out of the box where they are stored.
- · Accompany the patron outside to the locked bicycle and unlock it with the corresponding key. Keys are not to be given out to or handled by patrons for any reason.
- · Once outside, open the lock for the patron.
- · Give the patron’s library card or ID to them.
- · Bid the patron farewell.
- · Return inside with both the lock and keys in hand, and replace them in the box at the service desk.
- · Check the “Retrieved Lock” column on the clipboard to indicate that the lock was retrieved.
- · Return the box and its contents to the appropriate cabinet.
